Mercedes A vs B Service

Mercedes A vs B Service

Keeping your Mercedes at its best requires the right service plan.

It’s good news that Mercedes introduced a maintenance schedule in 2009 that explains when your vehicle needs service. The different Mercedes maintenance services are labelled A and B to ensure you receive the correct maintenance at the right time.

Read on to hear the differences between Mercedes A vs B Service and how JDK Automotive can meet all of your Mercedes service needs with better value than the local Mercedes dealership.

Mercedes A vs B Service

The Mercedes A Service

In the first year (or 10,000 miles) of ownership, the Mercedes A Service is a vital component of vehicle maintenance.

This service includes the following inspections, checks, and adjustments:

  • In order to ensure proper lubrication and cooling, your Mercedes engine requires synthetic motor oil replacement.
  • Replacing the oil filter will prevent harmful particles from entering and damaging the engine.
  • Tyre inflation will be checked and corrected in order to ensure optimum fuel efficiency, prevent uneven tyre wear, and maintain vehicle safety.
  • The brake system and components must be thoroughly inspected to ensure they are functioning properly.
  • The Mercedes dashboard warning messages should be reset, and the service records on the Mercedes system or logbook should be updated after the service is completed.

The Mercedes B Service

The B Service will be performed approximately one year after the A Service. An in-depth inspection and part replacement are included in this service:

  • Using synthetic motor oil ensures that your Mercedes’ engine components are properly lubricated and cooled.
  • Replacing the oil filter will prevent harmful particles from entering and damaging the engine.
  • The cabin dust/combination filter must be replaced regularly to ensure a dust-free and pollen-free cabin.
  • Tyre inflation will be checked and corrected in order to ensure optimum fuel efficiency, prevent uneven tyre wear, and maintain vehicle safety.
  • The brake system and components must be thoroughly inspected to ensure they are functioning properly.
  • In addition to resetting Mercedes dashboard warning messages, service records on the Mercedes system or logbook must also be updated.

A year after the B service, your Mercedes will again need the A service. You then alternate between the two services each year.

Mercedes Services A and B for Older Models

Owners of older Mercedes models should be aware that some models come with more specific A and B Services. When this happens, you may see a warning message on the dashboard, such as A7 service or B4 service.

These services require the A or B Service and additional servicing of specific components. This is what they mean:

  • A Service – Minor basic service
  • A0 or B0 Service – Major basic service
  • A1 or B1 Service – Oil and filter change
  • A2 or B2 Service – Brake fluid change (24 months)
  • A3 or B3 Service – Pollen filter (part of B service)
  • A4 or B4 Service – Air filter replacement (48 months)
  • A5 or B5 Service – Grease Pan Roof (36 months)
  • A6 or B6 Service – Fuel filter
  • A7 or B7 Service – Spark plugs (48 months)
  • A8 or B8 Service – Coolant
  • A9 or B9 Service – Towbar
  • AC Service – DPF
  • AF Service – Auto gearbox fluid and filter (36 months)
  • AH Service – Cambelt and water pump

The Signs You Need to Service Your Mercedes

On your dashboard, a light will illuminate when your next service is due. If you do not see this message, you may need to check the vehicle settings in your Mercedes.

You can find the service menu on your Mercedes dashboard. From here, you can access the ASSYST PLUS feature. You will see a message on your dashboard informing you what service you need and when your next service will be.

Service Case Study for Mercedes C Class

We recently provided a routine B Service to a Mercedes C Class for a client. In addition, during the Mercedes service, we provided our client with a free courtesy car.

As part of this service, our technician performed the following checks:

  1. Check the mirrors, lights, wipers, and windows.
  2. Check the air conditioning, seat belts, hazard lights, and the horn.
  3. Check the steering, suspension, and drive systems
  4. Check the brake pads, discs and brake fluid.
  5. Check underneath the bonnet for leaks or faults.
  6. Genuine replacement parts are used for the air filter, oil filter, spark plugs, and belts.
  7. Ensure the Mercedes is free of leaks, corrosion, and rust by inspecting underneath the car, removing the trays and draining the oil.
  8. Tyre pressure, tyre tread and the wheel alignment are measured.
  9. Check and top up antifreeze as needed.
  10. Check the engine oil and refill.
  11. Update the service history.

Our Mercedes service specialist discovered uneven brake wear in our client’s Mercedes C Class. Replacing the front brake pads and discs and aligning the wheels was necessary. It was fortunately caught before serious damage could be done.

After consulting with the customer, our technician expertly replaced the brake pads and discs, ensuring the Mercedes had even braking pressure and aligned wheels. Our technician also confirmed that no suspension components were damaged.

Our technician replaced the oil and filter, inflated the tyres, and reset the maintenance counter. Lastly, our technician updated the Mercedes service record.

We follow the manufacturer’s guidelines and specifications every time we service or repair your vehicle. Our online reviews attest to our excellent customer service. Our professionalism and efficiency are the same regardless of the customer or the task.

As a result, our client felt confident that their Mercedes had been thoroughly and correctly serviced and that their vehicle was now safe to drive.
