Mercedes B Service

Mercedes are well known  for their precision engineering and high-quality performance. However, like any make and model of vehicle, it is essential your Mercedes is regularly serviced to ensure its longevity, performance, and resale value.

Mercedes recommends two types of maintenance services – Service A and Service B Service A is the first maintenance service, usually performed after driving approximately 10,000 miles or after one year. Service B is a more thorough maintenance service carried out after driving around 20,000 miles or for two years, and then repeated every 20,000 miles or two years thereafter.

For both services, JDK Automotive will always follow Mercedes’ recommended guidelines. It is important not to overlook or skip these scheduled services to ensure your vehicle continues to drive smoothly and safely on the road.

A client recently contacted JDK Automotive as they were unsure of what type of service their Mercedes CLA needed. Luckily, our specialists were on hand to advise. With years of experience servicing Mercedes vehicles, our client’s CLA was in safe and trusted hands.

So here’s what you need to know about Mercedes’ services…

Mercedes A v Mercedes B Service: What’s the Difference?

Mercedes vehicles follow a maintenance schedule that alternates between Service A and Service B. We are often asked what the difference is between a Mercedes A service and a Mercedes B service,  so let’s look at the main differences between the two.

A Mercedes A service will most likely be required once your vehicle reaches one year old or has been driven approximately 10,000 miles.

The Mercedes A service includes the following:

  • Oil and filter change
  • Fluid level checks and top-ups
  • Tyre inspection and inflation
  • Brake system inspection
  • Lights and wipers inspection
  • Battery inspection
  • Resetting maintenance indicators

The Mercedes B service is more extensive, and is usually due after driving approximately 20,000 to 30,000 miles or two years, so this is one year after your Mercedes A Service.

The Mercedes B service includes the following:

  • Oil and filter change
  • Fluid level checks and top-ups
  • Brake system inspection
  • Tyre inspection and rotation
  • Air filter replacement
  • Cabin air filter replacement
  • Check and reset maintenance indicators

A comprehensive vehicle inspection is also carried out,  where the vehicle’s components  including suspension, steering, lighting, and electrical systems, are thoroughly inspected for any potential issues or signs of wear and tear.

After Service B, the schedule usually goes back to Service A and continues to alternate between the two services throughout the life of your Mercedes. However, the specific intervals in the service schedule, and the type of maintenance tasks needed may vary based on your Mercedes model and year. Consult your owner’s manual or or talk to one of our specialists here at JDK Automotive for an accurate maintenance schedule for your vehicle.

The Next Step

So back to our client’s CLA…

Our specialists checked the Mercedes digital service records and found that the client’s CLA was due its B service.

A full safety inspection is included in every Mercedes service at JDK Automotive.

We are committed to keeping our customers safe, which is why all Mercedes services at JDK Automotive undergo a thorough safety inspection. Our client was very pleased that we were considering their safety with our additional safety checks. In fact, on this occasion, we discovered a problem with her Mercedes braking system during our additional safety checks.

Both front and rear brake pads and discs were dangerously thin – they needed immediate attention. Replacing brake pads, discs, and brake fluid isn’t part of the standard Mercedes B service. However, our Mercedes service experts at JDK Automotive are extremely thorough when performing a Mercedes service and so were able to spot and replace these parts.

Whenever a Mercedes vehicle is brought to us for a service, we use our advanced knowledge and evaluation process. There is no guesswork, just accurate testing and measurement.

In the UK, poor quality brakes are a leading cause of road accidents. The risk of driving around with poor brakes goes beyond the fact that it’s illegal; it also puts your safety at risk. Getting into trouble with the police or getting into an accident is the last thing you want.

At JDK Automotive, we check every inch of your car to ensure it’s roadworthy. By spotting and preventing problems early, our Mercedes service experts are able to save you money in the long run.

Resolving the Problem

First of all, we replaced the brakes with genuine Mercedes discs and pads to ensure the Mercedes warranty was protected. After the brakes were replaced, we conducted road testing to ensure the Mercedes CLA was safe to drive. Our next step was to update the Mercedes online service history in order to keep the Mercedes manufacturer warranty valid.

The CLA passed all of the safety tests, and our Mercedes service specialists handed the keys back. Our client was extremely impressed that they received the keys back the same day they dropped the car off. JDK Automotive always strives to provide a faster turnaround with great value without sacrificing quality, compared to the main Mercedes dealer.

In Summary

Despite the fact that their Mercedes CLA was due for its annual service, our client was unsure of which type they needed. Thanks to the experience of our Mercedes service specialists, we were able to determine which Mercedes service was needed.

This Mercedes CLA needed a B service, which our experts are very familiar with.

As part of our additional free service safety check, we discovered a brake pads and discs problem – they were below the legal minimum.

In order to ensure the client’s safety, our Mercedes specialists sourced genuine parts and replaced the brake discs and pads on the same day.
